Cody Rhodes may have lost to Randy Orton at WWE Vengeance but he surely made his mark on the radar of the WWE Universe. He showed that he can hang with the top dogs and is now ready to take the next step at becoming a main eventer. As I’ve said before, his facial injure has been a blessing in disguise for him. He was able to showcase this crazy, grotesque character that most of us find interesting and compelling. Looking back, the “Dashing” Cody Rhodes gimmick looks garbage compared to the one he’s doing now. With Vince McMahon slowly getting behind Rhodes’ character, it’ll be only a matter of time before we see him fight for the World Heavyweight Championship or the WWE Championship. There is no stopping Cody’s road to greatness.

How’s it going everybody? Went on a short (and planned) vacation 2 weekends ago so I must say I’m quite refreshed and ready to make some wrestling wallpapers again! 🙂

As we already know, WWE’s newest and latest videogame got a much needed refresh. The SmackDown vs. Raw series was going downhill even before 2011. Heck, I barely played 2011. WWE ’12 is looking to change that destiny. Haven’t been following the updates about the game but I’ve read somewhere before that the action will be more natural-flowing, realistic and intelligent-looking.  That’s good news since I really hate the robotic action featured in the past SVR series. Also, the complexity of the buttons/moves are a big turn off on the SVR series. I’m not much of a gamer now as I was a decade or so ago so here’s hoping that WWE ’12 will have me hooked up on wrestling videogames again.

I understand why Kurt Angle had to turn heel. Bobby Roode needs to beat a huge and credible main eventer at BFG to solidify his ascent to the top as the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Angle is best suited for that role.

Bobby has been riding an incredible amount of momentum for months now. If there’s one thing TNA can proudly showcase right now, it’s Bobby’s main event push. He’s ready for it. It’s really his time now. I applaud TNA for getting this one right. Roode looks really humbled by this, real life and storyline-wise. I specially like the video they aired last Thursday’s Impact Wrestling showing how this opportunity has affected Roode and his family. It not only gives a lot of meaning to the title but for every wrestler in the TNA roster and their families as well. This is exactly how championships matches should be treated, especially how it affects a wrestler who will be getting his/her first shot at glory. Well done TNA!

A year ago, if someone were to ask me if I see Mark Henry being the WWE or World Heavyweight Champion at least once in his career, I’d totally say never. Fast forward to today and what do you know, Mark Henry is now the top dog on SmackDown! Kudos to the creative for getting his push right. I’ve never seen Mark Henry looked this good, this legit. And that’s already saying a lot.

After 15 years in the wrestling business, Mark Henry has finally reached the top of the mountain. His monster persona, especially his Hall of Pain gimmick, has put everyone on notice. Kane, Big Show, Sheamus, Great Khali, Zack Ryder and Randy Orton were some of the ones who experienced this first hand. No one is safe when this mammoth of a man is around, wrestler or not.  And that includes the future challengers for his World Heavyweight Championship that he is planning to keep for at least another 15 years. A tall order but still feels legit to everyone’s ears.

With the emergence of CM Punk plus him feuding with the recently-assigned COO Triple H and Kevin Nash, the “destiny” of Alberto del Rio and his Cena-centric feud with, of course, John Cena, Miz and R-Truth were left in the rubble. Everything they have said recently are true. These 2 were main-eventing PPVs, chasing and defending championships, constantly getting TV time and cutting epic promos before they were set aside for more trending WWE Superstars though it wasn’t really their fault ‘coz you have to ride that hot streak of certain superstars like CM Punk or Alberto del Rio. Now that they have a common ground or cause, these 2 loudmouths are ready to cause chaos again not only on the tag team division, but on the whole WWE programming itself. Sick of being underutilized, R-Truth and Miz will be seeking to reach the top of the mountain again and plan to stay there for a long while.

When TNA held an X Division tournament featuring some of the top talents in the independent scene, a lot of those wrestlers impressed me. Zema Ion (kababayan!), Jack Evans and Low Ki (of course) were awesome. One man was above everyone else though, Austin Aries. He quickly got my attention with his no-nonsense style of wrestling. TNA struck gold on this one of a kind, total package guy. He looks and talks sharp, wrestles fiercely and oozes with charisma. It’s only just a matter of time before he takes that X Division Championship belt off Brian Kendrick. Austin Aries is the perfect starting point to make the X Division relevant again. Make him a fighting champion and stay that way for at least a year. It’s a stretch but worth trying considering the current situation of the X Division.

Apparently, this is Austin Aries’ second stint in TNA (didn’t follow the promotion until late 2009). Looks like he’s here to stay for good. Wish he’ll do BIG things for the X Division!

Crowned as WWE Tag Team Champs, Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston get a chance to showcase their unique talents on a weekly basis and put excitement back on the tag team division. Plus, they get to avoid midcard hell for now 😛 Kidding aside, these high flyers blend together without fail. Their moves/attacks are perfect for tag team wrestling. Imagine Kofi setting up Evan’s Shooting Star Press by hitting their opponent first with an SOS or Trouble in Paradise then Evan quickly launching his SSP move. Bam! 1-2-3! Feuds with The Awesome Truth (Miz & R-Truth), Usos and those upcoming teams COO Triple H plans to sign to bring back the glory days of tag team wrestling. Man, that’s fresh and I’m excited about it! I can still remember how Nation of Domination, New Age Outlaws, Brothers of Destruction, Rock & Sock Connection and the other great ones tore the shows down. It won’t be easy reviving the division, but at least Kofi and Evan can take a stab on it. I do hope they succeed and succeed big time.

The duo still don’t have a tag team name though. I’m thinking Flight Kings or Air Frenzy. Lame, I know. It would really help if they can come up with a cool one. Also, their outfits need to look the same or at least similar to each other. What do you guys think?

Sheamus is smiling a lot these days. Apparently, he’s now a good guy and currently feuding with the World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry. He’s getting a renewed push and by becoming a face, it’s gonna be a fresh new start for the Irish warrior. Honestly, I’m perfectly fine with the turn especially now that he has earned the respect of the fans. It’s easy for us to cheer for him now and get behind his act. What I don’t like is, yes, the smiling part. WWE is going the John Cena route again, you know, the face character acting like a true superhero, being a role model for the kids, the unnecessary smiling etc. Sheamus doesn’t need those qualities. He just needs to beat the hell out of the villains in the roster straight up, no-nonsense style just like what he did to the faces when he was a heel. He needs to be that badass anti-hero, just like what CM Punk is doing right now. C’mon WWE, it’s our turn now. The kids had theirs already.

It’s looking like Sheamus will be having a program with Christian after WWE SummerSlam (or probably after the next PPV). That spells trouble for Captain Charisma. A World Title run for Sheamus is looking more plausible now.

SummerSlam 2011 is shaping up to be another must-see WWE PPV just like the previous MITB PPV. The reason for that is simple: CM Punk vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship and the winner would go on to be the Undisputed WWE Champion.

After CM Punk made his return last week, Triple H, being the new COO of the WWE, had 2 WWE Champs on RAW. Something had to be done. Instead of stripping John Cena or CM Punk of their belts, The Game decided to do this his way and have them compete in SummerSlam for the sole ownership of the WWE Championship. This storyline intrigues me because it is fresh and involves real personal issues between HHH, John Cena and CM Punk. With SummerSlam approaching, WWE has gained steam and a steady rise in ratings because of Punk and the storyline that revolves around him. On SummerSlam, personally, CM Punk should win that match or his MITB win will look like nothing but a fluke. He has to back up that Best in the World label and losing to Cena will only mean that we’re back to the status quo he was talking about. However, regardless of who wins that night, I think Alberto Del Rio will be cashing his MITB briefcase after that and win the WWE Championship. For that scenario alone I would like CM Punk to win his match with Cena because that will give him that full babyface turn WWE’s trying to do with him. He needs to chase and climb that top of the mountain again so the fans could totally buy into his character. After a feud with Alberto, it’s going to be HHH vs. Punk at WrestleMania 28 for sure.
