SummerSlam 2011 is shaping up to be another must-see WWE PPV just like the previous MITB PPV. The reason for that is simple: CM Punk vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship and the winner would go on to be the Undisputed WWE Champion.
After CM Punk made his return last week, Triple H, being the new COO of the WWE, had 2 WWE Champs on RAW. Something had to be done. Instead of stripping John Cena or CM Punk of their belts, The Game decided to do this his way and have them compete in SummerSlam for the sole ownership of the WWE Championship. This storyline intrigues me because it is fresh and involves real personal issues between HHH, John Cena and CM Punk. With SummerSlam approaching, WWE has gained steam and a steady rise in ratings because of Punk and the storyline that revolves around him. On SummerSlam, personally, CM Punk should win that match or his MITB win will look like nothing but a fluke. He has to back up that Best in the World label and losing to Cena will only mean that we’re back to the status quo he was talking about. However, regardless of who wins that night, I think Alberto Del Rio will be cashing his MITB briefcase after that and win the WWE Championship. For that scenario alone I would like CM Punk to win his match with Cena because that will give him that full babyface turn WWE’s trying to do with him. He needs to chase and climb that top of the mountain again so the fans could totally buy into his character. After a feud with Alberto, it’s going to be HHH vs. Punk at WrestleMania 28 for sure.
